Guernsey was separated from the landmass of Europe at the end of the Ice Age as sea levels rose. Jersey remained attached to the mainland of modern day France for another 2000 years and the Islands’ indigenous fauna and flora reflect this. However, it is Guernsey’s safe anchorage and its position on the seaways between modern day France and England that has defined much of its history.
